Needy

When we are broken people, we find it easy to neglect ourselves and focus on others we believe are needier (broken) than us. I have spent over thirty years helping others while neglecting myself. Why? Because I wanted people to accept me (people-pleasing), and I thought in my brokenness that it was God's plan for me to help others while I neglected myself. Not to mention, it is sometimes easier to focus on others rather than the skeleton (s) in our closet.

How many of you agree it is easy to help someone else we believe is in a needier place than us? We fail to realize that it’s a trick from the enemy to distract us from becoming who God has called us to be. It’s a derailment to help others while we are drowning. It’s like us giving people a lifeline while we need CPR.

Sometimes, we give and give and don’t receive anything in return, which is why we ask ourselves, why poor me? The question is, why not poor you? Because people will only treat you based on how you treat yourself. You have to learn to make yourself a priority over everything else.

You must know when enough is enough when to invest in yourself, and when to let people be. You have to learn to understand that you are only responsible for your actions and feelings. You must understand that the only events and circumstances you can change or control are yourself.

I want to encourage you today that there is always time to become a healthier version of yourself. There is only one requirement: be an ACTIVE participant in your change. You must acknowledge that there is a problem, decide to change it, and work towards it. Remember to seek a professional if needed.

Some Steps to Change:

1.     Acknowledge there is a problem

2.     Seek a solution(s)

3.     Be willing to go through your process

4.     Have grace with yourself

5.     Repent (if you are a Christian)

6.     Remember your change(process) is a journey, not a sprint race

7.     Forgive yourself

A Bible passage says to take the speck out of your eyes and leave the plank in your neighbors (Mathew 7:3-5). If you think about it, a speck is a small/ tiny dot. That passage asks you to focus on yourself, your healing, your journey, staying in your lane, and running your own race.  Remember my favorite phrase, “You cannot give someone what you don’t have, and they cannot give you what they don’t have.” Today, I employ you to invest in yourself, your healing, and your life and to become a better version of yourself.

Stay Bless!
